Call me ILIAN. I'm currently a student of architecture.
Poiesis means creation, or bringing-forth — though I'd rather read it as
the making and the made: at once the labour, with its difficulty and its collisions of
thought, and the thing that labour finally yields. Every creative act has these two ends, and
painting, photography, writing, architecture and games all pass through them. In the making we
think and feel; in the made we find our joy. And though the made is seldom as perfect as we had
hoped, it is what sends us into the next making. Hence the name. This collects the game design
I've been exploring lately, along with earlier work in architecture, painting and photography —
modest things, mostly, and I'd welcome your thoughts.
How can consciousness know being; how can the self understand itself. On that roaring night the
sarcophagus would cover the desire, the ambition, the obsession, and every truth there was.
“Who was it you saw in that mirror? Ah, I should have known.”
The fourteenth expedition left twenty days ago. There has been no word since. At the site there was only a carriage at the mouth of the valley, its harness intact, and in it a single letter: no addressee on the envelope, nothing written on the paper. In the ten years that followed, everyone connected with the affair dreamed of a circular ruin; dreamed of a sky scorched by fire; dreamed of the man who was being dreamed.
REVERIE — Bachelard's daydream, set strictly apart from the dream of sleep: lucid dreaming is where imagination is actually born, and the pen tends to wander there too. A selection of my drawings — some from older dreams, some from recent ones.
KAIROS — the opportune moment; the Greeks used it for the one irreplaceable instant in a long stretch of time. But every moment is irreplaceable, every frame something that will not come again — and photography is the best means we have of keeping them. What follows are moments I caught.
ISTORIA — Alberti's term for narrative painting. This portfolio collects undergraduate work built on narrative as an architectural premise.
